[News Boquete] Back to School in Panama Help Needed!!!!

To the Boquete Expat Community

First of all, I would like to once again thank  all of those who helped out the needy families during the Holidays! Thanks to their generous donations we were able to provide toys, food, clothes and shoes to around 30 children in 7 families and were able to provide assistance to the convenience store owner..

As you know, back to school in Panama is March 2, and through Charbit´s Foundation, we have teamed up with the Honorable Representative of Los Naranjos Eduardo El Mello Moreno, and we with the Elementary School of Los Naranjos (Octavio Lopez) to provide assistante for those of extreme poverty and immediate need. We were made aware of the fact that to that elementary school with a population of about 450 children, assist approximately 150 children who are considered extreme proverty and or special needs. These children do not eat breakfast in the mornings, and often rely on school provided lunches as their only meals. Additionally, they often lack shoes and clothing and school supplies.

The Representative of Los Naranjos has offered his location, for which we are going to condition a Community Center aimed to provide after school homework assistance, snacks, arts, crafts and assess their indiviual needs. The school has allowed us to use their cafetería facilities to provide daily nutritious and well balanced breakfasts for these 150 children.

However, we have been advised that there are approximately 91 children who will be unable to buy uniforms shoes and school supplies, so therefore, we reach out to you again, and ask that you touch your generous hearts and help us help these children. Any and all help you can provide in donations as far as notebooks, pencils, backpacks, socks, shoes, raincoats, etc will be immensly appreciated. You can reach me (Olga Suarez 6539 8895 or by email olgacsuarez@aol.com) or visit the office of the Representative Moreno directly to drop off your donations. Your time and expertise in teaching, arts and crafts or even serving their breakfasts is also needed and appreciated.

The future community center, now office of the Representative is located in Los Naranjos Calle Principal, is located across from Toledano (where many of us buy our eggs). It is the small building on the right, right before the Los Naranjos Gym, the school is right after the gym. The Representative and his assitant will happily take your donations and make sure they reach those in need. All of us together (the school principal, HR Moreno, and Charbit Foundation), are working as a team to make sure all children assist school and have equal learning opportunities as well as a nutritious well balanced breakfast every morning.

Thank you in advance for your support and generosity.
