[News Boquete] Info about visit with First Lady

A new wind is blowing!

What an exciting experience, and we want to share it with you!  The Fundacion Pro Integracion (FPI), Capitulo de Boquete, was  recently invited, together with many other organizations that provide assistance to handicapped persons, to meet personally with our First Lady, Licenciada Lorena Castillo de Varela. On February 6th, more than a 1000 persons gathered at the gymnasium in David,  including 25 members of FPI who were transported by buses sent to Boquete by the office of the First Lady so they could attend this very important meeting.

In her speech, the First Lady promised to work hard to improve the situation for handicapped people in Panama and to listen to every person that needs help. Her husband, Juan Carlos Varela, is putting special emphasis on aiding the handicapped and the First Lady is his representative for this endeavor.

After the First Lady's speech, many attendees had a chance to talk to her personally. At one point,  Johana Rosas, one of our members, had a conversation with her about her schooling. When Johana told her that she is about to finish high school, the First Lady very generously offered her a scholarship to university. Another member of our  group, a young men named Ariel, received  the same generous gift.  Other members received wheelchairs and special milk products. All in attendance received food bags.

Endira, one of our artistic members, offered the First Lady a  wonderful piece of artwork, happily received by the First Lady as you can see in the photo.

Upon leaving, the First Lady promised to visit our facilities in Alto Boquete during one of our Saturday get-togethers, so she can meet all our members.  We were all overjoyed with the First Lady's presentation and her response to our questions.  Our first impression of meeting with our lovely First Lady left us with the hope that we are seeing the beginning of many improvements in meeting the needs of this country's  handicapped citizens.
