This is an especially easy way to begin making art in a non intimidating way, so it's perfect for those who have wanted to get started doing art but who may not feel they are artistically "talented"...many of us who make art know that artistic skill can be learned, like any other skill...and having artistic "talent" is only one attribute of being an artist...
Some of you may have already heard of this art project/activity that is enjoyed by artists of all media, of all experience levels and in locations all over the world...
it's called Artist Trading Cards, or ATC's for short...
A little history…
The original concept was developed by Swiss artist M. Vanci Stirnemann, who wanted to make a catalogue to document his activities with other artists. Because the cost of printing a catalogue in hockey-card format (similar in size and design to baseball cards) was prohibitive, he decided in 1996 to produce 1,200 cards by hand, all of which became part of a single art installation and show.
This led to the first exhibition of Artist Trading Cards in April 1997. During the show, visitors were encouraged to produce their own cards to trade with Stirnemann and others at the closing reception. From then on, a Trading Session has taken place at the site of his show, INK.art&text in Zurich, Switzerland on the last Saturday of every month.
Since the initial trade of these mini pieces of art, this concept has reached all around the world and has included every conceivable medium of art and style of creating art.
Because these are little pieces of art work/play, they are non intimidating, are seen and received without judgement and can be made by anyone, regardless of their experience...they are perfect for the beginner, the professional and everyone in between...
There are only 2 rules to creating this art:
1. the pieces are always the same size - 2.5" x 3.5" (the size of a poker playing card) - with the work done either in portrait or landscape format and...
2. the pieces are traded, not sold...
We will hold our first trade of ATC's at our next meeting of Boquete ArtWorks & you are invited to join us...date and time to be announced via Noticia...
