[Noticias] Summary of Rodrigo Marciacq Tuesday Presentation on Mining and Food

Many people who were not able to attend the very popular Tuesday Meeting talk by Rodrigo Marciacq have requested a summary of his remarks which are attached. For your reference, the meeting topic is also included:

THE MINING PROGRAM IN PANAMA - PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE

You have heard about the mining law protests - maybe you were even delayed getting to or from Panama City. What are they really all about?

Did you know that the mining operations that are about to start up in Panama will tap the largest undeveloped copper deposit in the entire world, worth well over $100 billion in copper, gold and other metals? The effects of this project will have profound environmental, social and economic effects for all of Panama and especially those of us here in Chiriqui. You need to know the facts.

WORLD FOOD PRICES AND HOW THEY EFFECT PANAMA AND THE REST OF THE WORLD

Food prices are skyrocketing around the world, in part fueling protests in the Arab world. In due course, we will all be affected. What can we expect and how can we prepare?

Our Presenter:

Rodrigo Marciacq is a lifelong Boqueteno and today truly one of the First Citizens of Chiriqui. Tapped for a Minister of Agriculture position in the new Martinelli administration, he chose instead to remain in Boquete and continue development of his large scale organic produce project. Well known in the Panamanian social justice movement, Rodrigo has been active in negotiations regarding the implementation of the new Panama mining act.

This Tuesday, March 8, Rodrigo will discuss the background of mining act and its ramifications for the future, followed by a brief informative discussion of world food prices. Q&A will follow each presentation

Don't miss this up-to-the-moment timely presentation about two subjects that will affect all of our lives directly and indirectly, in the near and long term future.

Please forgive the delay in getting this out
