Poor Ricardo's Almanac, part 3

Reply-To: Tracy and Andy Hallen <athallen@yahoo.com>

In part 2 of "Poor Ricardo's Almanac" I told you that I had used 5 of the coupons in the "ReAL Boquete" coupon book, earning a return of $31.25.  Since then I have used 2 more coupons - one for the golf course at the Cielo Paraiso, and the other for the mini golf course in Valle Escondido.  Using the Cielo coupon saved me $50 as I got one round free with the purchase of 3.  The mini golf coupon saved me $5 and was great fun.  I suggest you try it if you are looking for an enjoyable recreational experience.  No golfing expertise is required and it is fun for all ages.

Net, my $30 investment in the "ReAL Boquete" coupon book has already netted me a return on investment of almost 300% ($86.25 on 7 coupons) and I expect to use several more coupons before they expire in December 2012.

As you know, all of the money generated by the sale of these books goes to support "ReAL Boquete", a non profit organization focused on protecting the environment by facilitating and promoting recycling.  For this reason, we view your coupon book purchases as more than monetary contributions.  We view them as votes of confidence that our efforts are recognized and appreciated.  So, if you have already purchased a book, thanks for your support.  We couldn't do it without you.  And if you haven't bought a book, we will keep working to earn your respect.

Here are 2 more quotes from Old Ben Franklin that I believe apply to this situation.

"The Use of Money is all the Advantage there is in having Money."

"The noblest question in the world is What Good may I do in it?"

We still have books available, so if you would like to acquire one, you can contact me or one of my associates, or you could just pick one up at the Recycling Center the next time you drop off your recyclable materials.  I also plan to have a table at the Tuesday Market on Feb 7 and Feb 14.

You do NOT have to be present to win a raffle—but you do need to buy your tickets. Raffle tickets are available at the Tuesday Morning Market in Boquete.

As an added bonus, on Sunday, February 5, there will be an advance Boutique Sale of designer brand and high quality clothing for sale, beginning at 1 PM, at the Amigos de Boquete site behind the Fundadores Hotel in Boquete.

Last year's event raised over $60,000 and was divided amongst several organizations serving the needs of Boquete and Potrerillos. More than 100 volunteers have been working for months now to collect donations and organize the activities and we have already received over $73,000 in donated goods and services and $14,000 in cash donations. Over $7,000 of donated items have already been purchased on line.

Our largest corporate sponsors, Banco General and Boquete Quality Properties have pledged a total of $7,000. Be sure and thank them next time you are in town.

Visit our Auction Item page to see the amazing list of goods and services which over 300 donors have offered this year. http://www.bid4boquete.com/auction-items.html. Trips, resort packages, airline tickets, wine, legal services, tours, fishing trips, accounting help, fertilizer...the items range from the practical to the luxurious and there is, really, something for everyone. You can bid on line, NOW, to secure something you just must have. Go to the website and enter your bid for full value and the item is yours. Or, start the bidding now, online, and you might just get a bargain.

What we need NOW is for you to attend.

Help Bid4Boquete meet its goal of raising $75,000 this year to benefit those in need. 100% of proceeds from the sale go to beneficiaries.

Come out to see the Art Work and Jewelry for sale on Saturday.

Plan to bring the family and spend Sunday afternoon enjoying the fun and excitement of this annual event.

Kick off on Sunday is at NOON at the Boquete Feria. See you there!

  This Week:

Dimetrio Javier Diaz of ABoquete a local innovator will discuss the organic food production and pest control  Dimetreo was a recent nominee for a prize as one of the leading innovators in Latin America. His efforts are right here in Boquete and will have impact on our food chain. His discussion is even more relevant now with the approval of the US  Panama free trade agreement,  which will flood the market with foods many people were pleased to leave behind.

February  7:  Gilberto Barria Vallarino  : A presentation designed to give you a taste of the potential of methods that enhance body awareness  to reduce or eliminate pain.  The methods used at BodyMind Dojo by Gilberto, have been used successfully by scores of Boquete residents over the past four years. There should be some great photos of local and world-wide bamboo projects.

He will talk about how someone goes from a member of a technical advising committee for the film to a role on the screen. Dates for your Calendar

Reply To: Bid 4 Boquete <bid4boquete@gmail.com>

Tuesday, January 31  -- "Pick Up Day" at the BCP Market starting at 9 AM.  Bring your venta de patio (rummage sale) donations and put them in Alicia's truck which will be parked in (or close to) the loading zone for the BCP Market.  We also need donations of paper plates, cups, plastic ware, hangers, etc.

Sunday, February 5 -- Boutique Sale of our better clothing items. We've culled the best from the donations and offer a fine selection of name brand clothing in good condition. Mostly women's but some men's. We have dresses, pant suits, slacks, blouses, blazers, leather items, purses, shoes, etc. Starting at 1 PM at the offices of Amigos de Boquete around the corner from Mike's Global Grill (formerly Tammy's).

Saturday, February 11 -- The Wine Tasting and Live Auction are sold out but you can attend the Boquete ArtWorks Art and Jewelry Show in the Lounge Area of the BCP Theater from 10 until 5 PM. Fine jewelry and fine art pieces mostly from local artisans but some from artists in Panama City and elsewhere in the world. Some of the jewelry is antique. You can see what we have by clicking on Art & Jewelry Photo Album.  All items are for sale and all proceeds go to Bid 4 Boquete.

Sunday, February 12 -- This is the biggest day in our year long fund raising efforts. The doors to the Arco Iris Room (Boquete Fairgrounds) open at Noon and lunch will be waiting for you. There will be a huge rush to inspect the thousands of items in the Venta de Patio Sale and then you can settle back with some great food, a soda or a local cerveza, vino or Abuelo. After lunch, take your time to browse the 300+ items up for bids in the silent auction. Some great buys and a wonderful way to support local charities. Buy some raffle tickets ($2 each, 3 for $5) and you may win a Samsung Mini-Refrigerator. You don't even have to be present to win this--we'll call you. Great to put on your patio to keep your beverages cold. There's also the 50/50 raffle where you can actually win $$$$. We also have lots of crafts made by the local indigenous folks, goodies baked by the local bakers (both home and professional), dozens of types of plants to help you landscape, etc. Bring your kids, grand kids, neighbor's kids for the games, face painting, photos, etc. This will be a fun day for everyone!
