January 10: Mort Rabkin will give us a lesson on baking bread. The Rye guy is going to share the how to make an excellent healthy loaf.
January 17: Thomas McCormack the man responsible for delivering containers of medical goods to Chiriqui is going to speak to us about the customs and culture of Chiricanos and a little about how his my foundation was started.
January 24 : This is special meeting and due to the subject matter probably of interest only to those who pay US taxes, or should pay them. It will be a long meeting at least 90 minutes so come prepared.
UPDATE FROM AN IRS VETERAN: We have all heard about the new IRS reporting rules set to go into effect for the 2011 tax year. How will it affect the way we conduct our financial affairs? What is the impact on reporting foreign real estate holdings? What can we expect in terms of increased IRS enforcement? Steve Mopsick is a former IRS manager and senior IRS attorney with 41 years of experience inside and outside the government. His private practice focuses on offshore compliance, IRS problem solving and he has spent the past two years assisting more than fifty American families with a wide variety voluntary disclosures and other tax matters. Steve will give us an update on the new law and will be available to consult for free with anyone who would like to stay after the meeting.
Jan 31: Dimetrio Javier Diaz of ABoquete a local innovator will discuss the organic food production and pest control Dimetreo was a recent nominee for a prize as one of the leading innovators in Latin America. His efforts are right here in Boquete and will have impact on our food chain.
February :
Gilberto Barria Vallarino : A presentation designed to give you a taste of the potential of methods that enhance body awareness to reduce or eliminate pain. The methods used at BodyMind Dojo by Gilberto, have been used successfully by scores of Boquete residents over the past four years. Gilberto trained for six years in NYC with Ilana Rubenfeld who introduced him to the Feldenkrais Method, the Alexander Technique and her own integration of these two methods: Rubenfeld Synergy.
Scott Yates will present about using Bamboo as a building material.
March is Tourism month and I am looking for speakers on what to do in Boquete if you are not a couch potato

Used Book Sales
Well over 350 used books DVDs and CDs for sale and U.S. stamps
for your mail. All proceeds from the book sales are equally divided between Handicap Foundation of Boquete, Buenos Vecinos and Carolina Alvarez Concepcion who is blind. Now also selling Milagros Pinzon's book about Boquete for $5.00 and Stanley Heckadon-Noreno's book "Naturalists on the Isthmus of Panama" for $15.00. Donations of books, Cds, DVDs, magazines and jigsaw puzzles will be gratefully received.
Amigos de los Animales, the group that sterilizes, provides feeding stations and supports the rescue and adoption of dogs and cats is always looking for dog and cat food and monetary donations for medicines as well as clinics. See Carole, Cat, or Heather at the "animales" booth near the auditorium door for your donations. Do a good deed and foster or adopt a rescued animal.
