[News Boquete] Bus trip to Nancito Petroglyph Park and Las Lajas on May 6

Bus Trip to Nancito Petroglyph Park and then to Las Lajas for
Swimming and Lunch.

Nancito is an hour and a half drive from the City of David It is called by the local Indians "the narrow neck of land" because the mountain of Nancito is very close to the sea. The Nancito beach is a two minute walk from the edge of the mountain and the Interamericana highway separates the mountain from the sea. When driving to Nancito the Interamericana highway reduces to only two lanes because it is so tight between the solid land, the sea and the Nancito Mountain. On the entry into the Nancito Mountain are normally a couple of huts made by the local indigenous Indians to sell their handmade necklaces and bags. As you drive up the top of the Nancito Mountain you will see a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and then you will enter the Nancito town, there you will arrive to the Nancito Archaeological Museum. In this Archaeological site are ancient maps of Petroglyphs on the rocks that date back 600 BC.

We have arranged for UNACHI archeology professor Luz Graciela to lead an expedition to this secret little spot in Panama. We will use the UNACHI bus which will leave from Plaza Terronel (El Rey and Do It Center) on Saturday, May 4 at 8 AM. We can carpool to Plaza Terronel and leave the cars there.  We will stop at the little town of San Juan to have a quick breakfast and go to the bathroom.

Professora Luz has added another highlight to the trip.  Up the Nancito mountain, there is a mirador  or lookout post, from where one can see the Gulf of Chiriquí in the Pacific Ocean.  We will stop there for Professora Luz to relate the ngäbe legend of Rogara Meto or Go Caballero, a sukia or diviner whom the Spaniards put in prison in Remedios, but he had the gift of bilocation, and people would see him walking about Remedios eating bread which he would take from the stores.

After getting a tour of Nancito (and perhaps having the local children serenade us), we head back into the bus for the short hop to the white sand beaches of Las Lajas.

We will arrange a menu in advance with Las Lajas Beach Resort and (for a fee) be able to use their pool. More information will be sent to the folks who sign up.

The bus will return to Plaza Terronel about 4 PM.

Seats are available to the first people who sign up
and pay. You can catch me at the Tuesday BCP market tomorrow between 9 and 10 or you can pay at the hotdog stand at the Chiriqui Storage Flea Market on Sunday, April 7. The cost is $13 per person and includes the bus with gas, the driver, and admission into the museum and expenses for Luz. Meals are at your own expense. This trip will sell out very quickly.

Any profit made from this trip will benefit Bid 4 Boquete.

You cannot reserve without a payment.
This promises to be a lot of fun.
