That Was the Week That Will Be at BCP

It's been an incredible week at BCP, looking back over last week and forward to the next.

First, a message from the goddesses at the Tuesday Market this week:

Sex Please, We're Sixty - Tickets on Sale

This week tickets went on sale for the March 14th opening of Sex Please, We're Sixty, directed by Paul Morgan. Tickets are $10, available at Mailboxes, Etc., the Tuesday Market and at the door. I even hear that the Bar is planning something called "Dirty Blue Martinis" - I can hardly wait to see what that means...

Jazz and Blues Festival
From the sold out opening concert at the BCP theater to the final notes at VE on Sunday, this year's Jazz and Blues Festival was a huge success. We at BCP are more than proud of the small part we played in helping it come about. Hats off to Bob Applegate, Steve Bliss, Hans Lebuser and of course and all the volunteers who made it happen.

Then there was the dia por los ninos jazz class that almost nobody knew about in the Hex Room at the BCP. Musicians including the Adams Rich Band, Steve Kenyon and a drummer named Mike, put on a school for the local kids - Photographed by new BCP Board member and ace photographer, Robert Brauns.

Additions to the BCP Board
We are extremely pleased to announce three new BCP Board members (their official titles are required by the bylaws and are not their real jobs):

Robert Brauns joins the board in the role of Secretary, although his primary focus will be on coordinating and developing the BCP as a venue for artists of all kinds, art shows, openings, galas and receptions.

Emily Haworth joins as Marketing Director. Her special focus will be on developing and promoting the BCP Market, improving relations between the vendors and the BCP and possibly even opening a new Saturday Market aimed at Panamanian tourists visiting Boquete.

And finally, our old friend Rhody Edwards is back on the board as Facilities Manager. Over the years, Rhody has volunteered as much if not more than any single person at BCP. He is a force for getting things done within the organization on behalf of everyone who uses and values BCP.

Robert and Emily fill big holes in our management, but we are still looking high and low for a hands-on marketing person to focus on promoting the theater business. If you have any interest in helping out with this area, please let me know directly.

In addition, I am very pleased to note that Joanne Hatch, well known for her event and catering skills, has agreed to help out as a volunteer event consultant for BCP. She is working closely with Tammy on developing the BCP Bar as a fun and lively fixture in the new BCP - as her time allows.

The Tuesday Market Moves Ahead

At the request of almost everyone, starting this coming Tuesday, the BCP Market will be open an extra hour, until 1PM. This will provide more shopping time for late risers and those coming out of the Tuesday Talk at 11:30. We are even working on having more sandwiches and drinks available in the morning and after the Talk.

New Life for the Lobby

As this is written, Board Member volunteers are busily transforming the lobby of the BCP into a terrific venue for art shows, theater openings and just hanging out with our friends to chat and drink.

Appreciate Everyone in Your Life - and Tell Them
The sudden and unexpected passing of my good friend Mike Essman and the touching and well attended memorial service that his wife Cynthia organized in the Hex Room this week reminds me that I never had a chance (never MADE a chance) to tell him how much I appreciated him as a friend and caring person. Now it is too late for me. Tell everyone you love and appreciate just how much - do it now, today and every day - before it is too late and you are left with nothing but regret.

I Appreciate the Hospice Foundation
Over the last weeks, BCP has been the proud host of the Boquete Hospice Foundation for their training programs. Hospice care is a service that none of us want to think about before we need it, but are eternally grateful for when we do. Watching the training sessions in action, I am super impressed with the dedication, professionalism and care for our fellow citizens that they embrace. Speaking for BCP, we appreciate what you do for all of us in Boquete - you set a very high standard indeed for the spirit of caring volunteerism in our community.

Best wishes to all and looking forward to the week to come,

Mark Heyer
Executive Gardener,
BCP
