Somehow the email gods got hold of my original email and reformatted it badly befor sending out. If any of you had trouble reading it, here is another try...
Greetings to all my friends and neighbors in Boqute,
Coming to Boquete, I was first struck by the beauty and tranquility of the place - until I learned that almost every expat was being burglarized.
I vowed to do something about it and a few months later, Caesar Sherrard moved to Boquete and defined the problem and a possible solution. The result was the formation of Fundacion Alto al Crimen, in English, Foundation Stop the Crime. The following three years working with Alto al Crimen was one of the most satisfying and productive times of my life. The Alto al Crimen approach to community policing is unique in the world and in time will gain the widespread recognition that it has earned here in Boquete.
During this time, I was also active in events at the Boquete Community Players. Acting in plays, building seating, doing photography and so on. Earlier this year, as a new board member, I was approached by a group at BCP and asked if I would take over as President, a proposition I had resisted for more than a year. However, now the BCP was also losing its director and my friend, Jim Hatch. A new team, Paul and Hope Morgan had appeared on the scene. They brought more than 20 years of experience running community theaters to the party. But they were new to Boquete.
With the encouragement of the core members of BCP, I came on as President and Hope and Paul signed on to run the theater. Hopefully, my experience with the community would give them cover so that they could produce a successful season while integrating into the community.
It immediately became clear that the BCP was now becoming a community enterprise, not just a theater, and needed much development and structure. I could be true and productive to one organization, but not two.
With joy and confidence in the future of Alto al Crimen I have left that organization to focus on the needs of BCP.
This Tuesday, Fundacion Alto al Crimen will make its annual report to the community and outline important new initiatives that will further the safety and security of all of us in Boquete. I urge you all to attend and support the work of Alto al Crimen - and know that I am fully in support of the organization and its goals for securing the safety of our paradise in the mountains.
