[News Boquete] Thursday visit US Embassy and Consulate

Thursday, Feb. 13 we will have visits from both the US embassy Deputy chief of Mission (#2 in the embassy) as well as the folks from the Consulate whose job is to aid and abet US citizens.  The former - the Embassy - represents the US Government to the Government of the Republic of Panama.  The Consulate is there to aid US citizens in Panama in issues such as health and welfare, as well as grant visas to visit the US for citizens of Panama.  These are two quite separate missions.

The deputy chief of Mission, Mr. John Law, has agreed to host a town meeting type of meeting with the US citizens at 9 am in the top floor of the library.  At 10am, the consular folk will start attending to US citizens with problems such as notarizations, passport renewals, extra pages, etc. This will leave Mr. Law free to deal with questions regarding items between the two governments, or more complex legal issues such as implementation of FATCA and ‘Obama care’ for US expats. Hopefully he will also talk about US (Bechtel) policy on the current canal problems and US attitude toward the upcoming Panama elections, Mig planes en route to N. Korea, and why Panama does NOT have the drug problems (resulting from US demand) that other Central American countries have.  He is a very experienced diplomat representing the US and should have lots of answers.

I strongly urge everyone to attend.
