We recently cancelled auditions for El Grande Coca Cola (scheduled for Nov 2011) with a last minute notice and indicated we would send a follow-up email shortly. That is the purpose of this email.
Effective immediately, the Chiriqui Players is entering a hiatus until the beginning of 2012. After much introspection and discussion with friends, I've decided to shut down operations and defer the balance of the scheduled performances for 2011 until later for reasons of health, financial and organizational restructuring.
1. HEALTH: We have pursued an aggressive performance schedule for 2011 (including 3 shows in 4 months). Unfortunately, it has led to some unexpected health consequences for me that requires me to slow down and take some time to rest.
2. FINANCIAL: Due to some recent increases for some key expense items (e.g. facility rental) we incur producing our theatre productions, we need to reevaluate our strategy/budget and consider modifications to our business plan to remain profitable.
3. ORGANIZATIONAL: Paul Day has decided to step down immediately as part-time business manager and producer. After producing three shows he has determined that the role requires more time and focus than he is currently able to offer to not only sustain, but grow the company. Its been a pleasure working with Paul and I will miss his collaboration in the future. Paul remains a friend of mine and the Chiriqui Players. Consequently, I am unable to move forward with a production without someone in his place. So I am looking for a new business manager/producer.
The collision of these factors all hitting at once has led me to conclude that the universe is subtly telling me that its time for a brief hiatus.
Thanks to our sponsors, cast and crew and for your support of our performances. We will continue to bring top quality theatre entertainment to Panama in the near future.
