Soloy Relief Effort - Update

TO OUR GREAT COMMUNITY!

Once again the generosity of the Boquete community has been amazing. The outpouring of gifts and donations for the flood victims in Soloy, on the Ngobe-Bugle Comarca, was heartwarming to say the least. Two full van loads of food, clothing, and bedding have been dispensed to Soloy thus far with all items distributed to affected families. The Alcalde (Mayor) of Soloy oversaw the distribution of items, which was very orderly and well organized.
 
Another very positive outcome of this relief effort is the way that numerous entities in Boquete have worked together to make the effort more effective. Kudos are due to Amigos de Boquete who have made significant amounts of food available at wholesale cost from their stocks for their ongoing free school lunch program to selected Boquete district schools. Two groups that conduct adventure trips in the Soloy area, Chiriqui River Rafting and Boquete Outdoor Adventures, have served as donation drop-off points and have made the deliveries to Soloy. BOA is scheduled to make another delivery on Monday or Tuesday and Chiriqui River Rafting will make another food delivery toward the middle of next week. More than $450 was donated by individuals, the Boquete Bible Fellowship, and the Rotary Club of Boquete, all of which went to food supplies and some school supplies that had been requested. The Bliss family and their foundation, Contextual Solutions has also helped with this and other relief projects.

The response from our community to this very serious event is yet another reason that we can feel extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful and generous place to live.
