February 14: Volunteerism Valentines Day is a great day to discuss love and giving. We are going to have a round table discussion with members of some of the more active local NGO's who are making Boquete a better place for all. This meeting will be about volunteerism and how you can get involved. Speakers and groups involved will include, Steve Bliss, representing both Contextual Solutions and Boquete Red Cross, Susan Peterson, representing  the handicap foundation (Fundacion Pro Integracion), Louise Orr, Buenos Vencinos, Dottie (the generous)  from Amigos De Animales, Panny Barrett Bid4Boquete

February 21:  Scott Yates will be speaking about the use of treated bamboo as a sustainable building product. Guadua bamboo, one of the top 10 bamboo species used in construction in the world, grows well and is native to Panama. There are some very interesting facts about bamboo, .and construction techniques for its use. Scott will discuss the use of more environmentally sustainable and less expensive building techniques using low energy embodied materials that are available in Chiriqui. There should be some great photos of local and world-wide bamboo projects.

February 28:  A Special Presentation by Prof Peter Bormann, visiting from Germany. Thank you to Beth Allen and Anayansi for arranging this opportunity to hear from a professional about Volcanos in Central America.  The topic is Nicaragua and it's Volcanoes,  also touching the devastating earthquake of 1972 and the tsunami of 1992, both phenomena closely related to the causes of volcanic activity. Panama has been shaped by the same processes and according to to the USGS Baru is just taking a nap.

March 6:  Briant Dominici will visit from Panama City. He is a biologist and will have a visual presentation called  , Panama Starts with a "P" as in Paradise...  things to do in Panama, ecology related.  About Panama in general, not specifically around Boquete.

March 13: "Organic Gardening in the Tropics".  The presenter is Justin Seeley who is a consultant with Finca Santa Marta.  He and his friend, Jenny have considerable experience farming organically in the tropics and will share some of what they have learned including the why, the how and the importance of making good compost.

March 20: Prof Bormann will return to discuss going beyond our planet Earth, through our solar system and far beyond into our Galaxy, the Milky Way, and even further into the Cosmos consisting of myriades of other milky ways. This talk which will give you a feeling of the awesome beauty and grandeur of the cosmos, of the forces of never ending creation, of the "Where" we come from and will go to, about the tremendous dimensions in space and time surrounding us "one-day flies" on the little but outstandingly beautiful, precious and unique little planet Earth whom we should care for.

March 27: Ursula Kiener Ford will visit to give us a Panama Tourism update. More details later.

April 10:  John Cole will talk about what it was like for a non-actor to get a speaking role in a major motion picture; Moneyball. He will talk about how someone goes from a member of a technical advising committee for the film to a role on the screen. He was a baseball scout for 25 years and plays the role of a scout in the film. A unique feature of the film is that scouts play the role of scouts wherever possible. A number of his baseball compatriots are in the film as well.  He will have a DVD of the film there and will  show the scene and explain how it was done. .

June 19: Carla Black : Heliconias in general, their natural history, adventures in their habitat, as well as care in the garden.
