[News Boquete] Animales celebrates 5000 animals

On Sunday May 26, Amigos de Animales spayed or neutered another 105 animals, 77 dogs and 28 cats.  This was not one of our biggest clinics, but it was one of our best: a day of great significance to Animales as we neutered our 5000^th animal.  In seven years, Ruby McKenzie has built Amigos de Animales from a small group of gringos working primarily with other gringos to an organization that has become a vital part of Boquete and the surrounding areas, with Panamanians working side-by-side with gringos, all to improve the lives of the animals in our commuity.

 

We honored one of our most loyal collectors, Diomedes Gonzalez, whose hard work and dedication has been an inspiration to all.  As always, our tireless vets were there to see us through…Drs. Tello, Cesar, Virgilio, Aaron and their 2 vet students along with Dra. Chely made sure we finished before dark.  The day went so smoothly that they asked for more animals, so next month, Sunday June 30, we will all be back at the El Cacho gym.

 

And of course, we could not do it without the volunteers; one of our volunteers said it best: "The clinic runs on volunteers, love, time, devotion, dedication, pure and simple. My word for the day is achievement. We pre-oped, shaved, injected, got into surgery, cuddled, rehabbed, loved, and sent home.. dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, much better for being with us."  Thank you to Vicki Whittle and thanks to all our wonderful workers, food donors, collectors, drivers, and organizers without whom none of this would be possible.

One of our best supporters is selling his beautiful yearling Quarterhorse, Cesar, and donating the proceeds to Bid4Boquete, from which Amigos de Animales will benefit.
