[News Boquete] Blood Donors Needed for the Hospice Blood Donors List

Hello Everyone,

 

The Boquete Hospice Blood Donors list is a wonderful community service for anyone who needs blood for an emergency or for a scheduled surgery.

 

This is very important for the community since there is no blood bank here in Chiriquí District except at Regional Hospital.

And if you happen to be at Regional and need blood, you still have to have someone donate for you.

 

The list of donors is getting very short because many of our donors are over age the age limit, have been out of the country, or are on medications.

We need volunteers that qualify for the list.

 

Last month we had an emergency for a very nice resident of Boquete who needed an emergency donation very late at night for a rare blood type.

We could have lost her if not for the gallant effort made by Jeanie Miller whose home has been cut off from the road, as many of you know.

She was nice enough to walk a half hour, late at night, in the dark, on a moonless night to get her to her car and drive to David so emergency surgery could be done.

Thank You Jeannie, we are proud to have people like you in our community.

 

Now that is above and beyond what is usually needed in order to be a blood donor, but it was a critical situation and I only had 2 people on the list to call.

And it was also the first time I have ever had to find a donor in the middle of the night. That is NOT normally the case if you are needed to donate blood.

But what if you were the person who needed blood and there was none to be found. This is NOT the U.S. where blood banks are the norm.

I will need you name, blood type, age, phone number, email and location where you live. (Boquete, David, Conception, etc.)

AND if you know any younger people in the area that might be interested, please forward this to them.
