[News Boquete] Chris' Culinary Adventures BBQ Fest Update

Chris' Culinary Adventures BBQ Fest Update

Hi Ya'll

A Team, one week to practice, experimenting, creating many new taste bud pleasers, massive amounts of rain, all day working in soaking wet socks, a river running through our tent -
Welcome Folks to a taste on the inside of Panamá's National BBQ Competition.
You ask was it worth it? Walking away with  2nd Place, and placing in all catagories the experience, coming home with three trophies.....Yeah!!! It was pretty sweet!

Seven years ago, The Florida BBQ Association was invited to Panamá to give instruction on how to run a successful fest. I think they taught well! Being from Kansas City a little nostalgia from the days of walking down the American Royal BBQ Events flooded my memories.

This event, I must admit, had me pretty intimidated because we were going up against professionals. Peace of mind tried to set in knowing our team had a pro too - Rick Haworth of Wyoming. Rick brought his  BBQ restaurant here and joined us in slingin' some ribs! His food truck 'Chiriqui Smokehouse', will be up and running very soon here in Boquete. Our team consisted of Ricardo Castillio (Sabor), Thomas Norman (resident of Boquete), Rick Hayworth (Chiriqui Smokehouse Food Truck) and myself Executive Chef Chris Young (Sabor).

Come by the restaurant, enjoy lunch or dinner, share some stories, and check out our trophies!!

We are already talking and planning for the next event in Boquete, March of 2016. I would encourage Boquete folks to think about competing next year. It really was a great time, of food, fun and drink! Awesome ribs, chicken, ribeye, rolls, music, and the smells of flavor permeating the atmospher really brought the community together. What a great time.
Dust off your BBQ cookbooks, grills, and start grillin' those ingredients. No wet socks and rivers through your tent in March. Probably ;)

Until next time!

Chef Chris
