Caldera Needs Your Help! We need vaccine to address an outbreak of canine distemper.
About one week ago I discovered sick dogs in Caldera. Several have already died, and more are infected with this deadly virus. Ruby McKenzie and Amigos de Animales immediately provided 100 vaccines, and volunteers, to inject healthy dogs in order to protect them. This afternoon we held a vaccine clinic and the turn-out was overwhelming. In an hour we were out of vaccine and there were hundreds of dogs still waiting their turn. It broke my heart to turn away people and their pets.
Almost every household in Caldera has 4-5 dogs, sometimes more if they are working animals on the big ranches. The vaccines cost $3 each. And, even though $3 does not seem like much money, $12-15 to cover all their dogs is a lot of money for local families.
If you could find it in your heart to open your wallet one more time, the people and dogs of Caldera would be most appreciative for any amount you can donate. Nothing is sadder than seeing your pet die a painful and needless death. Your donation will protect dogs from such a terrible fate.
Please make your donations directly to Amigos de Animales. I am hopeful we can return to Caldera with more vaccine by next weekend. And, please remember to keep your own pets vaccinated.
Thank you very much,
Judy Odom, Caldera
