What Is Happening to The Hot Springs??

Reply To: Anya Spielberg <anyaspielberg@gmail.com>

What is Happening to our Hot Springs? The hot spring water is being diverted to a private site for resort development. The natural ponds are being closed by private interests who may have illegally titled the property.

Come hear Mr. Ezequiel Miranda speak on this and other important environmental topics on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 10:30am at BCP.

SPEAKER: Mr. Ezequiel  Miranda  Cell Phone: 6681-1818

President of the Association for the Conservation of the Biosphere, District of Boquete

Member of Association Aprodiupa, which involves 18 organizations in the province, in conjunction with the area of Highlands of Cerro Punta Fundisep,  an environmental movement.

Our organizations are focused on environmental education, stressing the importance of the Park Volcan Baru, Park International Amistad, and conservation of soils and major rivers in the province and the country. History of the springs of Caldera from past generations demonstrate the healing power of the hot spring water that contributes to human health. The indigenous travel from all over Panama to receive this natural medicine. History reveals the large numbers of people who have been cured of diseases using the minerals springs. Many owners of the hot springs land, over the years, have tried to privatize the hot spring water, but the Panamanian laws are clear that this is a protected public resource.

How can the foreign community get involved and be part of the fight? Ideas include participation in physical activities, rallies, electronic messaging, investments that contribute to costs of different types, and technical contribution, further identifying the scientific importance of this  important natural resource.

Come listen to Mr. Miranda explain the current conflict between private interests and public interests. Mr. Miranda will also share knowledge on other current environmental concerns such as hydro electric plants and the expansion of the road from David to Los Naranjas.
