Subject: Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI/GFI) These are the receptacles you will typically find in Kitchens, Bathrooms and other "wet" locations. They have two buttons on them, Test/Reset. Did you know it is recommended that these be tested once per month by pushing the Test button? When you push the Test button, the Reset button should pop out and power is disconnected from the outlet. If this does not occur, the outlet needs to be replaced if you want the protection against shocks/electrocution they are intended to provide. These devices have very sensitive electronic circuits in them, which are vulnerable to voltage surges/spikes from the utility. If the outlet has been damaged, it may continue to provide power, without affording protection, and you won't know unless you push the Test button. A less common way to protect an entire circuit is with a GFI breaker in your electrical panel. If it is located there, it will have the Test/Reset buttons on the breaker. All spa/pool equipment should be protected with a GFI breaker.
