[News Boquete] YOU ARE INVITED TO THE MAY ARTWORKS GATHERING

We invite you to the Boquete Artworks gathering this Friday, May 15th, 10:30, on the 3rd floor of the Library.

This month we are excited to present Annie 0'Mohondro, a free-lance Artist since 1990. Her styles have evolved from 'Totemic' with a Native influence of the Pacific Northwest to Fish-Printing.

Annie is an original, passionate impressionistic fish painter and gyotaku artist. She brings legends and history together as represented by her fish. Her most notable art medium is impressionistic gyotaku, which is a fish rubbing on fabric or handmade paper. Fish rubbings were invented by the Japanese more than a hundred years ago - before the invention of the camera - to record their catch. In Japanese, 'gyo' means fish and 'taku' means impression, or rubbing.

Her works have been collected by Ted Turner, Kim Kovak, McCormick and Schmidt Seafood Restaurant among others.  She has owned 6 galleries in Oregon and has worked with and represented many indigenous artisans. Oregon Public Broadcasting did a segment on Annie, 'Oregon Art Beat' that aired in 2004. http://www.opb.org/television/programs/artbeat/episodes/607/

Annie is a self taught artist who claims to operate by the 'seat of her pants'. She is a mother of three grown sons and is an avid fisher-woman. Her candid approaches to creating art and teaching her specialty of Gyotaku have brought her much success in the Arts. In 2010 Annie went to the Cook Islands in the South Pacific to teach Maori students her techniques. She & her husband Michael came to Boquete from Oregon in February this year. Annie would like to inspire the Boquete community of kids in the Arts during her stay in Boquete.

On Friday she will present how she found her 'niche' in the art world and share her tips on how she found success.  She will give a slide presentation and show a film on how her art is made. You will be amazed by her work. We hope to see you there.
