[News Boquete] Boquete Has Help For Those With Short Term Health Care Needs

 

Do you know that Boquete has an organization created to help support those with short term health care needs?  It is called Boquete Health ( www.boquetehealth.org ).   It evolved out of the eight year old Boquete Hospice Program ( www.boquetehospice.org ).  We have trained volunteers available to help with the needs of those who were temporarily incapacitated. 

Boquete Health has three programs.

1.       Caregiver support services:  After a nursing evaluation of client needs, trained and available volunteers are assigned to help family and friends with the needs of clients.  It may be several hours of respite care, emotional support, assistance with medical referrals, transportation to a doctor’s appointment, picking up medicines, grocery shopping or bringing periodic meals.  Although we are not able to dispense medications or feed clients, every effort is made to help the client be comfortable and safe.  All visits and client information is confidential.

2.       Equipment Loan Program: This service is open to anyone in the Boquete area, expat or Panamanian, who needs a temporary loan of medical equipment.  Items such as hospital beds, commodes, canes, walkers and oxygen concentrators are available.  There is a monthly visit to monitor the equipment for repairs, maintenance and help the client with any difficulties in using the equipment.  Equipment may not be transported outside the Boquete area.  Donations of no longer needed medical equipment are gratefully accepted.

3.      Blood Donor Services:  A blood donor coordinator maintains a confidential list of current potential blood donors.  When blood is needed, the coordinator attempts to recruit donors acceptable to the hospital under Panamanian law. Boquete Health services are free of charge.  We survive solely through the donations of the Boquete community.
