On Sunday April 28, Amigos de Animales Boquete spayed or neutered another 160 animals, 121 dogs and 39 cats. This was a record in our small Amigos de Boquete clinic; and since we ended up with only three vets, it made for a very long day. I think even our usually tireless vet, Dr Tello, was done in by 8pm after being in his feet for 12 hours. And just to keep us on our toes, we had a live birth – a very pregnant mom gave birth to 8 bouncing baby puppies. Thanks to our terrific sponsor, Heidi from Mike’s Global Grill, the mom and pups will have a place to be safe and grow until they are ready for adoption.
So many people to thank who have made our clinics function…Carole and Jerry Loveless continue to support us with their donations and their use of a taxi/truck for the day. Robert Shaw allowed us to use his flat-bed truck making it easier for our collectors to bring in their animals from the far fincas. Nancy Halbert brought breakfast, Nairn brought lunch to keep us going, Joanne Ettenes snuck in with her fabulous English sandwiches, Heidi from Mike’s brought pizzas, and Bert brought cakes and brownies to perk us up in the long afternoon hours.
Ruby always says we have the best volunteers in the world and that is proved true at every clinic when we see their devotion to the health and safety of the animals of Boquete. And finally, thank you to the people of Boquete, these Panamanians who have embraced our mission and are so patient and kind. What a wonderful community we now call home.
The next clinic will be on May 26 and it will be a milestone - we will sterilize our 5000th animal!
