[News Boquete] Thursday, April 17 @ 1PM - Informal woodworker's meeting at Mike's Global Grill in Boquete!

First gathering for Boquete woodworkers.

In December, I started a  Boquete woodworker's group here at Boquete.ning, but we haven't had any activities.   Now it's time to move to the next step with an informal meeting.  I posted an event  notice five days ago on the Boquete.ning to announce this gathering, which will be an opportunity for woodworkers to meet each other and talk about what we want to do as a group, and how I can help out with my computer and internet/website skills.

General topics for discussion will include wood, tools, supplies and equipment - where to buy and how to ship to Panama - and anything pertinent that others suggest.

The name I would like to use for the organization is "Boquete Woodworkers and Artisans."  I will clearly include a descriptive phrase like "An Informal Organization for Professional and Amateur Woodworkers and Artisans in Chiriqui Province" in all communications.

We can use the Boquete.ning group as a roster for members, but I will also set up an independent blog , which will be primarily for communication between anyone interested in woodworking who lives in the Boquete-Volcan-Dolega-David (Chiriqui Central??) area and their potential clients/customers.  The blog will be not be a social blog, although a bit of bantering will be o.k.  It will be moderated to keep it focused on woodworking and maintain its useful to members without being overrun with irrelevant clutter.  I hope thagt it can become a useful tool for communication between woodworkers, both hobbyist amateurs and professionals.  All posts will require approval before appearing on the blog, but that should be manageable since I do not expect a huge amount of blog traffic.

I may to do serious promotion of the blog/web site, and offer low-cost advertising space for legitimate businesses that offer services such as custom woodworking, and the sale of wood-products that are hand or shop made in Panama and other Latin-American countries.  Information about, and the promotion of, cheap off-shore manufactured goods will not be allow in the mix.

I will also design something to make it easy to e-mail leads to members privately  - without direct advertising.
