The results from the 2nd Annual Chili Cookoff and Fiery Foods Fest are in...
For the second year in a row, Dog's Breath Chili, by the folks of Amigos de Animales, garnered first place. Amigos de Animales has sterilized nearly 3000 animals in 6 years and are funded strictly with donations and fundraisers. Look for the adoption area at the Tuesday morning meeting for puppies, kittens, adult cats and dogs. Their website is www.fadab.org. These guys are hard to beat. They also won for best theme.
The incredibly closely contested second prize chili went to Terry Granger. First prize Salsa to Kjersten Van Horne, with salsa from her own garden, and First prize dessert was a split vote with two winners - Cyndi Grasman and Gail Cody.
The wing eating contest garnered only two entries, and they both suffered for their art, with Jack, last name unknown , the winner in the end.
The event organizers and participants are grateful to all the food entrants, each of whom did a wonderful job. There was not a bad entry to be found. Thank you to Antonieta Sherrard, Joe Howsey of Pedasi, Jungla Cafe of Palmira with a chili and a salsa, Santiago with both a chili and salsa, Peter Markus, Margaret Pentecost, Sharon Langham, and (CSI) Bob Reese. Thanks to Las Ruinas Restaurant for hosting and to all who attended - more than 150 - and next year we do it again!
