[Noticias] RUNNING WATER FUN-RAISER FOR A PERUVIAN VILLAGE AND HEALING CENTER

Hola amigos!

Join us for a fun raising dinner/dance party at Nairn and Larry Kennedy's Home in Volcancito on April 16th, at 6:00 pm.

This is a Fund-Raiser for a village and healing center in Peru with the goal of affording them running water for drinking, cooking and showers.  The healing center was created by Teobaldo Ochavano Lopez who is a Peruvian healer (see info and photos below) in the Amazon jungle.  Harreson and I had a chance to visit for 5 days in 2007 and at the time it was very rustic.  Now he has much better facilities and groups from Europe and the United States have been traveling there for alternative healing. With your help we hope to raise $2500 so he can purchase everything missing for the village and healing center to have running water.  You can imagine what a difference it will make for the people of the village and the patients.

The Kennedy's will provide a full gourmet meal and open bar. Harreson will be DJ'ing playing songs from the 50's to today which means get ready to dance!!!  The cost is $25 per person and all the money will be sent to Teo's village.  Thank you all for your generous support and bringing lots of friends.  We will have some fun surprises... and also some door prizes.

A Special BIG thanks to Nairn and Larry for hosting this wonderful event.

Please RSVP by replying to this email (neviamayers@me.com) and letting me know how many will attend.  Please answer by no later than Tuesday the 12th in order to plan the right amount of food and drinks.  I'll respond to your email to arrange to get your tickets either in advance or at the door and I will email you directions.

Teobaldo was born August 11, 1969, his father had been steered away from traditional indigenous life and young Teo had been set on the path of education and assimilation into mainstream Peruvian culture. After high school in Pucallpa he entered university there and earned a degree in education and became a primary school teacher spending several years away from his Shipibo homeland instructing children of the neighboring Ashininka people. However, in his teenage years he had begun apprenticing with his grandfather who was a curandero (healer) even though his father did not support this activity, wanting Teo to become a "modern" Peruvian citizen.  Receiving an inner summons to become a healer which he at first resisted, having invested much in becoming a state-salaried educator, but the internal voice was relentless to the extent that he finally quit his job and entered the difficult path of acquiring the vast body of knowledge and skills necessary to become a traditional curandero healing with plants. He began healing babies and young children and today is happy to see these same youngsters grown up strong and healthy. Slowly he started working on healing adults as well and then came the vision to begin a healing center to which groups of individuals could come and benefit from his knowledge as a healer.
