Stained Glass Workshop
In Caldera at Black Rock Art Ranch

January 22, 23, 24 and 30 plus four extra elective workshop days January 25, 26, 27, and 29 if you wish*
Class is From 10:00am till 12:30pm workshop time till 3pm.  (Studio opens at 9am)
Cost is $55 glass and materials extra

Learn the art of stained glass.  You will leave The Ranch with a completed stained glass window.  You pick the size of your window and in this class you can make one as large as 22 inches by 22 inches.  All the tools you will need are provided for your use and you can create your own design or pick from our book of patterns.  You are not learning to make sun catchers but real windows. (Of course you can make sun catchers if you wish)  The Studio has a very large selection of stained glass to choose from to create your project.  
 
January 22 -  Learning to cut glass, pattern selection, glass selection
You will learn: all about the different tools used to create stained glass.  You will learn to cut glass using clear glass which is included in the cost of the class.  How to create patterns, how to cut patterns, the rules for patterns for stained glass.  The different types of stained glass and the effects of their use.  How to select glass for your pattern, getting the correct amount. 
Each student is encouraged to make a window not larger than 20 x 20.  Size and number of pieces equals time needed.

January 23 -   Cutting out the glass for your window, applying copper foil to the pieces
You begin the construction of your window.  Learning how to cut pattern, cut glass exactly to the pattern.  How to use the diamond grosser.  After you have a few pieces completed then you will learn how to apply the copper foil to the pieces.  We also will learn how to work with lead cane but this is not recommend as the method for a first window.

January 24 - Tack soldering your pieces, stained glass slide show
You will learn how to tack solder your pieces together, the different kinds of irons, the different kinds of solder, continued help on cutting your pieces out and we will watch a slide show on how stained glass is made and see some history and examples of stained glass work.  You will continue to cut out your window pieces.

January 25, 26, 27 and 29 Workshop days to allow you to finish cutting out your pieces and foiling
These 4 days are elective, you will continue to cut out your window pieces.  If you finish you window you can start another small project. Chris will work one on one with students as needed.

January 30 (or when you finish your window) - Finish soldering your window, polish and clean your window
You will learn how to finish solder your window, how to clean the window and apply a finish patina if you wish.  We also will talk about frames for windows.  (we do not make frames in this class)

*Extra studio use charge for really big projects or people needing more time $5 a day (9am to 3pm)

The cost for this 8-day workshop is $55 Material are extra.

The teacher for this workshop is Chris McCall.  Chris worked in stained glass for 10 years.  He owned The Stained Glass School and Supply and Denver Glass Machinery.  Chris created an 8ft x 8ft window for a home in Boquete.
 
You will leave the workshop with new knowledge, a beautiful stained glass window
