Michelle Parsons – "National Parks Reflect Nature's Wonders"

Michelle's photographs highlight some of the best landscape scenes she recently photographed during a visit to several National Parks in the Western Region of the United States.  This event is free of cost and open to the general public.

July 31, 2014 – 10:00 am - 12:30 pm  Science Project Presentations

How to Design, Test, and Build a Boomilever  – Presented by David Faris

David Faris, a student from the U.S., whose engineering design won 2nd place in the Florida State Science Olympiad competition will discuss how he designed, tested, and built a boomilever using balsa wood and glue.  The device only weighed 14.2 grams but was able to withstand 11.22 kilos of weight.  David is fourteen years old and is the grandson of Eugenio Lee, a long-time resident of Boquete.  He will present his project in Spanish, but can also answer questions in English.

The Relationship Between Global Warming and Crime – Presented by Ariel K. Reid
Ariel is also 14 years old and is a resident of Boquete. He will present his 2014 Google Science Fair Project on the relationship between global warming and crime. Ariel is representing Panama in this Google competition.  He will also present his project in Spanish and can also answer questions in English. 

This event is free of cost and open to the general public.

August 7, 5:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. – 2014 American Film Showcase Program – Films and Discussion

The U.S. Embassy in Panama has been selected to participate in the 2014 American Film Showcase Program.  The American Film Showcase (AFS) is a major touring film program bringing American documentaries, feature films, and animated shorts to audiences worldwide. AFS is a partnership between the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. As part of this program, the U.S. Embassy will be bringing documentary filmmaker, Bess Kargman, and film expert and filmmaker, Marilyn Agrelo, to Boquete to screen and discuss the following films:

Coach is a short documentary directed by Bess Kargman about C. Vivian Stringer, one of the most prolific coaches in the history of women's college basketball. (17 minutes)  Here is a link for the trailer for this film: http://americanfilmshowcase.usc.edu/coach/

Mad Hot Ballroom is a documentary directed by Marilyn Agrelo about the students of several New York City elementary schools who learn ballroom dancing and compete in a citywide dance competition. Ms. Kargman and Ms. Stringer will be with us at the Biblioteca de Boquete for the screenings and will lead the discussion after the screenings.  Ms. Agrelo will also discuss documentary filmmaking in the United States and the short film industry in general.  The presentations will be in English, but Shaleen M. White de Bravo, Cultural Affairs Specialist from the United States Embassy in Panama, will be available to translate if needed. This event is free of cost and open to the general public. The films are suitable for all ages.

August 8, 2014, 4:00 pm - Collective Art Exhibit Opening - Honoring the Caldera River

Fundación Biblioteca de Boquete and Victor Aguirre, Teresa E. Wong, Oscar O. Valderrama, and Vilma S. Beard are pleased to invite you to the collective painting exhibition "Honoring the Caldera River."

Opening Toast, Friday, August 8, 2014, 4:00 pm, 3rd Floor Art Gallery  

This event is free of cost and open to the general public. The exhibition will be on display until September 4, 2014.

Fundación Biblioteca de Boquete presents guest artists of the Symphony Concert Foundation of Panama with a musical feast of duets, trios, and quartets featuring the music of Halvorsen, O'Connor, Pärt, Piazzolla, and more.

Tickets: $ 15.00 (Funds will benefit the library.)
