I feel called upon to make comment on the recent efforts of Alto al Crimen and the Boquete Police in the capture of Ozzie.
Many newcomers are unfamiliar with the fact that Ozzie has, for years, been a part of Boquete and has been welcomed into our homes for both computer consulting and social events.
Many of us who have lived here for 5+ years still have the "small community" spirit to stand by each other in our new country of residence. But many of those who have recently moved here take for granted the efforts of those who came before. The work of Alto al Crimen is amazing....this is a group of dedicated, hard working people who have increased the sense of security for us all. This organization, as well as those such as Animales de Boquete (who have removed tens of thousands of potential street dogs and cats), Amigos de Boquete (who help to feed very needy local residents), Casa Hogar Trisker (who provide shelter and food for unwanted young ones), and the many, many volunteer organizations founded by the ExPat community here in Boquete....are amazing and wonderful.
It is important for those who have recently arrived to know that these efforts cannot be taken for granted......it is necessary for ALL of us who have chosen to make Boquete our home to participate with our time and money, to support these important grass roots organizations. Please don't take them for granted.....step up and give of your time and donations to assist these organizations so we can all benefit.
I have moved to another Latin country and can tell you first hand, that it isn't this way everywhere. Boquete is very special....and it is special because of the contributions of our ExPat community. We don't pay taxes, yet we expect to receive the benefits of services we have grown to take for granted in our home countries. The only way things happen here is by the contributions in time and donations of those who are here.
So...PLEASE....be generous. Give....of your time and your donations.
Thank you for your support,
Penny Ripple
