Keeping Informed

Reply To: Price Peterson <price@haciendaesmeralda.com>

Good afternoon,

Recently I’ve received a number of inquiries regarding closed roads and why the indigenous folks are unhappy. For those who  don’t speak Spanish, following the action on local TV is difficult, although the coverage has been remarkably good and rapid.

Another option is to open our major newspaper, La Prensa, on line at www.prensa.com   Just below the banner at the upper right, you can select the language of your choice for the whole newspaper. Although the default language is Spanish, the translations are surprisingly good.

Although a day late, I think this newspaper will help to explain why people or groups are doing what they are doing and give some idea of what to expect.

On roads, as of this writing, the road Concepcion – Volcan is closed at the entrance to Volcan. SUNTRACS union is demonstrating in the center of David, although I know of no roads closed by them. This morning the riot police were charging the Educadors in Santiago and more police were breaking up protests of students. The buses between Panama and David are NOT running in that many feel that the interamerican is still ‘insecure’.
