Road Closures

Reply To: Price Peterson <price@haciendaesmeralda.com>

The SUNTRACS union (representing construction industries) is now closing the David-Boquete road at the bridge over the Rio Cochea. They are doing this in sympathy with the indigenous groups in Vigui and San Felix.

For the time being, one can go from Boquete to David by taking the turn off to Caldera and then taking the road to the right just before starting down to the bridge that leads to Caldera. This road will lead to Gualaca, thence to the interamerican highway at Chiriqui and on to David.

Generally, SUNTRACS closures are for 2 to 4 hours and  they sleep at night. There is also a threat that they may close the road at the entrance to Caldera. That would leave us in a pickle, except that the lack of gasoline would no longer be important and here on the farm, we are well supplied with hay.
