February 7: Gilberto Barria Vallarino : A presentation designed to give you a taste of the potential of methods that enhance body awareness to reduce or eliminate pain. The methods used at BodyMind Dojo by Gilberto, have been used successfully by scores of Boquete residents over the past four years. Gilberto trained for six years in NYC with Ilana Rubenfeld who introduced him to the Feldenkrais Method, the Alexander Technique and her own integration of these two methods: Rubenfeld Synergy.
February 14:Valentines Day is a great day to discuss love and giving. We are going to have a round table discussion with members of some of the more active local NGO's who are making Boquete a better place for all. This meeting will be about volunteerism and how you can get involved. Speakers and groups involved will include, Steve Bliss, representing both Contextual Solutions and Boquete Red Cross, Susan Peterson, representing the handicap foundation (Fundacion Pro Integracion), Louise Orr, Buenos Vencinos.
February 21: Scott Yates will be speaking about the use of treated bamboo as a sustainable building product. Guadua bamboo, one of the top 10 bamboo species used in construction in the world, grows well and is native to Panama. There are some very interesting facts about bamboo, .and construction techniques for its use. Scott will discuss the use of more environmentally sustainable and less expensive building techniques using low energy embodied materials that are available in Chiriqui. There should be some great photos of local and world-wide bamboo projects.
February 28: John Cole will talk about what it was like for a non-actor to get a speaking role in a major motion picture; Moneyball. He will talk about how someone goes from a member of a technical advising committee for the film to a role on the screen. He was a baseball scout for 25 years and plays the role of a scout in the film. A unique feature of the film is that scouts play the role of scouts wherever possible. A number of his baseball compatriots are in the film as well. He will have a DVD of the film there and will show the scene and explain how it was done. .
March 6: Briant Dominici will visit from Panama City. He is a biologist and will have a visual presentation called , Panama Starts with a "P" as in Paradise... things to do in Panama, ecology related. About Panama in general, not specifically around Boquete.
March 13: Ron Miller of Finca Santa Marta, more on his presentation soon.
June 19: Carla Black : Heliconias in general, their natural history, adventures in their habitat, as well as care in the garden.
